Nanee's Review of My Hero By Max Vos
When he was sixteen years old, Rich Miller saved a young man from drowning at his local pool. Little did he know that years later, as a senior in college and Olympic diving hopeful, Rich would meet up once again with Johnny Milloway, now a big football player – and when Rich says big, he really means ‘bear’. The shy jock remembers his savior, and the two men become friends.
Johnny isn’t put off by the fact that Rich is gay. In fact, the more time he spends with Rich, the more curious he becomes. Johnny wants to know all kinds of things – what it’s like to kiss a guy, for instance. Only it doesn’t stop there…
Rich finds it difficult to believe that this relationship can go anywhere. Johnny is straight, and Rich isn’t prepared to deal with the heartache he knows will come his way in the future. He has enough on his plate as it is – the Worlds are just around the corner, his father would rather watch a football game than spend time watching his son dive…. What he doesn’t count on is Johnny, who can be very determined. And having Johnny in his life proves to be a catalyst for some pretty earth-shattering changes.
I always enjoy to read Max Vos's stories. I loved these two characters, they learn so much throughout this story about themselves and each other and their future is brighter than either thought possible. A sweet and loving friendship that builds to so much more.
Rich I enjoyed his character, he is honest about his sexuality and his love of diving whether people accept it or not. I felt for him for loosing his Mother and the non existent relationship he has with his father. Rich craves to have acceptance from his father but at this point would settle for some conversation. I loved his character he was genuine, sweet, loving and sexy.
Johnny is a buff as hell football who meets the man who saved his life as a kid, he's in college on scholarship to play ball and is known for being hard as nails and mean on the field but the Johnny that is friends with Rich is sweet and caring, protective and loving. I loved Johnny's character too. I love that he isn't sure why his feelings other than Rich being his best friend seem to be so much more he is confused about whether he could fall for a man, I loved his learning about kissing and loving a man, exploring and being curious. I also loved Johnny's family, they all have huge hearts and love Rich as much as Johnny. Love the new beginnings.
This story has it all, ups and downs, love and a whole lotta of sexy! wow Max can write sex scenes like no other. WOW! 4 stars
